Changing the way we think about change through a regenerative design and development approach

The First Principle in our work is that our world, our places and our organisations are whole living systems. We draw on ancient and indigenous wisdom, systems thinking, scientific methodology, artifical intelligence, and developmental psychology to help individuals, communities and organisations evolve.

These days, tick-box sustainability has been stretched to become almost meaningless. It doesn't guarantee project success or our survial on earth. The common principles of sustainability and social responsibility stem from thinking that is 'problem focused' and 'solutions oriented'. This default approach aims to mitigate negative impacts and is often fragmented. The results, even if successful, are short-lived.

Our purpose is to develop long-term regenerative potential in projects and organisations. We achieve this through role exploration, understanding and discovery within scales of living systems.

Sadra Saffari, the founder of First Principle, has previously led design processes across multidisciplinary teams in New Zealand and North America. He has helped create an array of products and facilitated outcomes for organisations ranging from startups and community groups to corporations.

For the last 6 years, Sadra has been practising and developing regenerative design and development in Aotearoa New Zealand in partnership with Regenesis Group and through the work of Carol Sanford.
